Yes! DocsYogi parses the archive structure and displays all files and folders in a tree view without extracting anything. You can browse the complete hierarchy, check file sizes and dates, and even download individual files - all without fully extracting the archive to your disk.

Is my archive data private and secure?

Completely private. Your archive files are parsed entirely in your browser using JavaScript - nothing is uploaded to any server. This client-side approach means even sensitive backups, source code, or personal files remain on your device. We never see or store your archive contents.

What archive formats are supported?

DocsYogi supports ZIP (the most common format), TAR (Unix tape archives), GZ (GZIP compressed files), and combined TAR.GZ/TGZ archives. RAR and 7Z support requires specialized decompression and is planned for a future update.

Why can't I open my password-protected ZIP file?

Browser-based JavaScript cannot efficiently decrypt password-protected archives. For security, encrypted ZIPs require desktop software like 7-Zip or WinZip that can handle the decryption process. We recommend extracting on your local machine for password-protected archives.

What's the maximum archive size supported?

You can view archives up to 500MB. Larger archives are technically possible but may cause browser performance issues or memory limitations. For very large archives (over 500MB), we recommend using desktop extraction tools. Processing time depends on archive complexity and your device's capabilities.

Can I extract files from a TAR.GZ archive?

Yes! DocsYogi first decompresses the GZ layer, then parses the TAR structure. You can browse and download individual files from TAR.GZ archives just like regular ZIPs. The process happens in two stages but is seamless from your perspective.

Why does the archive show different file sizes?

Archives store both compressed and uncompressed sizes. The 'compressed size' is the space the file takes in the archive, while 'uncompressed size' is the original file size when extracted. The compression ratio shows how much space was saved - higher ratios mean better compression.

Can I create or modify ZIP files with this tool?

DocsYogi is currently a read-only viewer designed for browsing and extracting archives. Creating new ZIPs or modifying existing archives requires a different tool. For creation, your operating system's built-in tools (right-click → Compress on Mac, Send to → Compressed folder on Windows) work well.
